Posted on August 23, 2021 by Evan Stein

Creativity belongs to all of us – a life without books, art, music, films, performances, or entertainment would be static and sterile. Pittsburgh has a vibrant arts scene that we can be proud of for sure. Just in the visual arts category, we have nationally renowned museums, galleries, high-quality art centers, and talented local artists (Pittsburgh is ranked 3rd for best city for artists in 2021).

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused severe and unanticipated hardship for the arts across the country. Many Pittsburgh arts organizations and venues are resilient and have found creative ways to continue bringing high-quality art experiences to Pittsburghers.

Learn about 10 small to mid-sized visual arts organizations and spaces in Pittsburgh that are worth your time. So, take a break from surfing the Internet and support one of them with a visit!

Internet vs. internet

Green Light Wireless talks about Internet vs. internet

Posted on October 26, 2020 by Evan Stein

When we went through a brand refresh at Green Light Wireless, we thought long and hard about a seemingly simple question – should we talk about the Internet as ”Internet” or “internet”?

As an Internet company, this question brought us to research the history behind capitalizing “Internet” and how it slowly became “internet” in mainstream day-to-day writing.

The Internet is woven into the fabric of our everyday lives. “There was a time when people felt the Internet was another world,” said Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, “but now people realize it’s a tool that we use in this world.”

Research shows households use less than 10% of the bandwidth they pay for

Posted on October 1, 2019 by Evan Stein

We’ve heard it all before: Faster is better, and greater download and streaming speeds mean better internet service. That’s why many cable companies and broadband providers charge high monthly rates to consumers for bandwidth and speeds of 250, 500, or more megabits per second. They claim that people streaming video or playing online games need these high rates.

But do they, really? Or are these internet service providers just selling snake oil?

According to testing by the Wall Street Journal and a report by NPR’s Marketplace, if you’re paying for higher internet bandwidth, you’re probably buying snake oil. Continue reading “Research shows households use less than 10% of the bandwidth they pay for” →

1/20/2019 Weather related service interruption

Posted on January 30, 2019 by Evan Stein

Due to the extreme weather in the Pittsburgh area, we are currently experiencing a city-wide outage of all broadband and telephone services.

This service interruption is due to an issue our fiber vendor is having on their network.  Since the problem is upstream of the Green Light Wireless network there’s nothing we can do to be proactive about resolving the matter ourselves.

We have been informed that we can expect service to be restored by 9:00AM on Thursday, January 31, 2019. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
