If you hear “beer & penguins” and think hockey, think again. Our friends at the National Aviary know how to throw a party (that won’t break your heart in playoff season).
The Friends of the Flock — the National Aviary’s young professional community group — hosted Pints & Penguins at the Aviary on Pittsburgh’s North Side. It was one of those evenings that reminds you why Pittsburgh is genuinely a great city to live in.
Over 400 people showed up to the sold-out event. We sponsored the Photos with a Penguin experience, and the line wrapped around the entire Aviary lobby. Everyone wanted the chance to schmooze with two of the Aviary’s biggest personalities: African Penguins Wyatt and Ella.
The North Side’s National Treasure
Pints & Penguins wasn’t just a night at the Aviary with a fun twist. It was a full evening with catered food and local brews that helped raise money to ensure that the animals are provided excellent lifelong care.
It was also probably the best date night in the city, with couples, friends, and neighbors appreciating the diversity of wildlife, inspired art pieces, and even taking a chance at feeding some hungry (and very fancy) Victorian Crowned pigeons.

We got to chat with folks as they waited in line and hear firsthand why Pittsburghers come to events like this. And the answers were all about community & curiosity. People came for a date night. They came to try something different. Most importantly, they came because they care about the Aviary’s conservation mission and want to be part of what keeps it going.
