We’re #PittsburghProud of Friendship

The Octopus Garden in Friendship, PA

Posted on June 21, 2023 by Evan Stein

Friendship is one of the smaller neighborhoods in the East End, but it is big in personality. It is home to creativity and art, gorgeous old Victorian houses, tasty treats, and one of the most confusing intersections in the Pittsburgh Region.

Here are some of our favorite places to visit in Friendship.

What to Eat

Friendship Perk & Brew

This veteran and family-owned business has coffee to keep you going during the day and a great selection of beers on tap to start your evening off right.

Location: 300 S Pacific Avenue

Fancypants Popcorn + Yinz Coffee

Popcorn and Coffee. Two things that make you happy. What’s better than a place that combines them?

Location: 5607 Baum Blvd

Selami’s Turkish Kebab House

Fresh, authentic, and homemade – this Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant will make you feel like you’re eating at a friend’s house. A neighborhood gem!

Location: 5501 Centre Avenue

What to Do

Chop Walk & Talk

Even if you don’t know your sous-chef from your sous vide, Chop, Wok & Talk’s cooking classes will have you cooking like a pro! There’s a great selection of ethnic cooking classes for every palate.

Location: 5404 Penn Ave

Octopus Garden

This community garden provides food and smiles for neighbors. Octavia the octopus and her friend, Doris, a cousin of the Loch Ness Monster, keep an eye on the seedlings and their neighborhood friends!

Location: 135 S Aiken Ave

Baum Grove Parklet

In one of the best real estate deals in the city, this became a lovely community greenspace rather than a parking lot for exactly one dollar. Whether you and a friend grab a coffee from Yinz, or reserve it for a party, you can enjoy the free wifi provided by GLW.

Location: 400 Roup Ave

Pittsburgh Glass Center

This school/gallery/studio is a wonderful place to buy a cool, one-of-a-kind piece of glass artwork or take a class to make your own.

Location: 5472 Penn Ave

The Alloy School

The Alloy School is a creative home for artists of all ages and skill levels. They host classes from arts & crafts to hip hop and acting & improv.

Location: 5530 Penn Ave.

Where to Live

Baumhaus

These fully-appointed apartments are conveniently located, upscale, and pet friendly! You and Fido can enjoy the amenities of a great neighborhood every day!

Location: 5522 Baum Blvd

Historic Homes

A staple of all of our favorite Pittsburgh Neighborhoods are the historic homes, and Friendship is no exception. It’s easy to imagine yourself sitting on one of the porches of the homes and apartments along the tree-lined streets in this amazing neighborhood.
