Apps You Need for Vacation

Posted on July 12, 2022 by Evan Stein

While we love our hometown, sometimes we yearn for waves different than Sandcastle, sights beyond Zambelli fireworks, and culinary delights other than Potato Patch Fries. We love all of those things, of course!! But even those of us with black and gold DNA need to head out of town and see the world sometimes. So we want to introduce you to some apps that will take the hard work out of your planning and take the stress out of your travels.

Get Organized: TripIt

We all have an airport dad living inside us. But TripIt allows you to keep track of all the confirmation emails, tickets, and itineraries in one place. Connect it to your email and Tripit instantly imports all of your reservations and tickets. If your flight is delayed or your gate changes, TripIt automatically updates. Plus, you can share your itineraries with anyone you choose. Those you are traveling with won’t need ask you for all the details, and the folks picking you up from the airport will know exactly when you are supposed to land, even if that changes.

Design Your Road Trip Route: Roadtrippers

Roadtrippers takes all of the guesswork out of planning and taking your next adventure on the open road. Just put in all the sights you want to see, from a historical landmark to the world’s largest popcorn ball. Roadtrippers creates the best route for you to get from one place to another. It’s crowdsourced so you can find the coolest hidden gems, a local favorite diner, or a comfy place to sleep.  Each waypoint also has reviews and the hours of operation, so you don’t waste time going off your route.  They even have pre-made itineraries so you can take an All-American Route 66 trip or even see the locations of some of your favorite tv shows and movies.

Know What You’re Getting Into: Tripadvisor

Tripadvisor has been around a long time and with good reason. Their impressive catalog of reviews and photos helps travelers find the best of the best. Heading to dinner and want to make sure the restaurant has something for Grandma and the toddler? Want to really see what the rooms look like at that great deal of a hotel? Tripadvisor is the place to go. Written reviews and real user photos give you insight into restaurants, hotels, and destinations so you spend your travel dollars wisely.

Don’t Forget That Thing: PackPoint

It’s easy to get to your destination and realize you forgot something. It’s also common to get back home and have to unpack a bunch of stuff you never even used! PackPoint helps you pack everything you need for your trip, but is so much more than just a list app. Put in your destination, what you want to do there, and how long you’re staying and it creates your packing list for you. It checks the weather so you know if you need to bring that extra sweater or if you can leave the raincoat at home. It also suggests and reminds you of those little things you may forget, so you’re not scrambling to get a charger at the airport or picking up sunglasses at the next rest stop.

Show Off Your Adventures: Polarsteps

No one wants to spend all of their relaxation time updating social media to show everyone how relaxed they are. Polarsteps helps you plan your trip, but also enjoy it while you’re there. This beautiful-looking app tracks your trip and allows you to share it with friends and family so they can feel like they are there with you. And at the end of your travels, you can even relive your vacation through the app or in a hard-backed Travel Book with all your photos and stories.
