You never know when the last snow of the year will be in Pittsburgh. There always seems to be one more. After months of cloudy days and snow, we all long for the warmth of summer. We collectively lie to ourselves thinking that once the sun is out that the weather will be consistently nice. And it is! But then comes the heat. And the humidity. And the storms.
At Green Light Wireless we celebrate Pittsburgh in every season, in every weather. (But, especially in summer.) To help you enjoy our neighborhoods every day, we’ve crafted plans for any type of summer weather report.
Perfect Burgh Day
Breezy and 70
Enjoy the warm breezes! Start your day in Polish Hill by grabbing a coffee at Kaibur Coffee then head upstairs to Copacetic Comics to find something fun to read. Make your way over to Oakland to Phipps Conservatory and get some inspiration. Then head over to the Artist and Craftsman Supply in Squirrel Hill to pick up some art supplies. Take your books and art supplies to Highland Park to soak up the sunshine. Read a book under a tree, people watch on the lawn or sketch the ducks in the fishing pond. When you’re ready for some food and a drink, head over to The Abbey on Butler Street in Lawrenceville where you can continue to enjoy the sun and even some live music on their patio.
The Humidity Finally Breaks
Summer Thunderstorms
Just because you want to stay inside doesn’t mean you have to be bored. Start your morning with breakfast at Everyday’s a Sunday in Garfield. Offset the gray outside in the North Side with the bright colors in The Warhol Museum and the Mattress Factory. Few things are better than curling up with a book while listening to the rain, so head to Carnegie Library’s Hill District Branch to pick up some good books. Or check out Loom in the Strip District, if you’re feeling crafty. Finally, end your day with some popcorn and a good movie at Row House Cinema in Lawrenceville.
Hot & Humid
Sunny and 90
Most devices come with a default password as part of factory setup. Unfortunately, those can usually be fIt’s one of those days when you walk outside into a wall of humidity. The obvious thing to do is spend the day by the Schenley pool. But first, head to Dobra Tea in Squirrel Hill and grab an iced tea so you can stay caffeinated and hydrated. Then stop by White Whale Bookstore for your poolside read. When you’re done with the sun, head home to the air conditioning. If you are looking for something creative to do while hiding from the heat, head over to the Center for Creative Reuse and find some unique materials to upcycle into something cool. Don’t make things hotter by turning on your oven, grab dinner at Ineffable Ca Phe. Then end your day the way all summer days should end, with an ice cream cone at Scoops in Bloomfield.
